Two great journalism events are coming up in Toronto this January.
1. The Canadian Journalism Foundation is hosting a great discussion on the rise of multicultural media next Tuesday January 19th. The panel features four senior media executives whose organizations serve new and third-language Canadians. Panelists include: Jagdish Grewal from the Punjabi Post; Shirley Chan from Ming Pao Daily News; Madeline Ziniak from OMNI TV and Lori Abittan from Multimedia Nova Corporation.
Expect to hear about their respective visions and the progress they're making. Registration details are
here.
2. UBC professor Alf Hermida's
blog reports the details of the upcoming Canadian Association of Journalists' conference, to be held in Toronto on January 30th. The conference will explore "techniques, technologies and models to transform journalism for the 21st century."
Speakers include:
Rachel Nixon, the CBC's director of digital media; The Star's John Cruickshank and Jim Brady, formerly of the WashingtonPost.com and now heading up a DC-based
start-up news operation funded by Politico's backers. Brady hosted a
fabulous seminar at Samara last fall and is fascinating to learn from.
