There are some bright lights admist the chaoticly evolving news media these days, and one of them is unquestionably National Public Radio.
NPR is one of the only major news organizations to see a growth in audience share in recent years (you can read a short analysis on it, and the other one, here).
On May 18th in Toronto, NPR's Vice President for News, Ellen Weiss, will be at the Samara/Massey podium sharing the NPR story. She will address the challenges NPR has faced, including those of the fiscal persuation, and how they dealt with them. She'll also talk about how their non-profit, membership-based business model works, and how its evolved. She'll also get into some of the nitty-gritty of newsmaking, including how NPR integrated and trains its staff in news ways of reporting and storytelling, how they balance international, national and local news, and how they've moved to more quickly experimenting with innovations in their coverage.
There are a handful of seats still available for the 7:30pm talk, but seating is limited so please contact Josh Knelman to reserve a spot.
